This school year our focus will be on active engagement of students in the learning process. We will spend time getting to know our students’ interests, needs, learning styles and goals. We will then use this information to design work that invites their attention and commitment. Having now achieved full authorization as an International Baccalaureate World School, we will broaden our focus to create students with a global perspective and relevant skills to be successful in the 21st century. Our curriculum is rigorous and challenging, and is experiential and inquiry-driven, rather than textbook-based.  Students are given many opportunities to explore and challenge themselves academically and socially.  Students who succeed more readily at Durand-Eastman have strong basic skills and are willing to do the work required to take those basics to a higher level. WE have what is best for children at the heart of every decision, and we reflect constantly on our policies, practices, and procedures in order to take action to improve.
